Hey everyone! I’m super excited to share my recent discovery with you—Saalt period underwear. If you’ve been following my journey, you know how important it is for me to find period products that are not only effective but also that aren’t treated with harmful chemicals. PFAS, for instance, are found in many everyday products, from non-stick pans to some cleaning supplies. If you're curious to learn more about PFAS and my thoughts on them, check out my detailed YouTube video on the Saalt Period Underwear here.

Before I discovered Saalt, I had been using Thinx period underwear for many years. They were comfortable and made my period so much less stressful, but after the lawsuit back in 2023, I decided it was time to find a new brand I could trust. I did my homework and came across Saalt, a company that’s transparent about its products and committed to not treating their products with PFAS and other toxins. They were kind enough to send me a few pairs to test out, and after several months of use, I’m thrilled to share my experience with you!

SAALT PERIOD UNDERWEAR STYLES I TRIED

Saalt has a variety of styles and colors to choose from and so far I have tried 4 of the styles. I’m planning to buy a few more pairs to ensure I have enough for each day of my cycle. Here’s a breakdown of the four styles I’ve tried:

1. Leakproof Seamless High Waist Regular (Crimson Rose) This is my absolute favorite! The seamless design feels like a second skin—super comfortable and virtually invisible under clothes. It offers regular absorbency and is great for light to moderate flow days. When I first put this on, I was absoletely mind blown by the comfort. I know, I know. You’re probably saying, “stop being so dramatic,” but genuinely these are so comfortable and I almost think that they are more comfortable than my regular underwear! That’s how good they are! Not to mention that the absorbency section in the crotch is impressively thin but yet still absorbs blood like magic!

2. Leakproof Mesh Hipster Super (Blue Rain) The mesh material makes this pair breathable and light, perfect for active days. The "super" absorbency level means you can rely on it for heavier flows without worry.

3. Leakproof Cotton Brief Regular (Volcanic Black) For those who prefer classic cotton, these briefs are a fantastic option. They offer regular absorbency and the cotton fabric is incredibly soft, making them perfect for everyday wear.

4. Leakproof Comfort Brief Heavy (Deep Marine) When you need extra protection, these heavy absorbency briefs have you covered. They’re ideal for overnight use or for those heavier flow days when you need a bit more confidence.

Understanding Saalt’s Absorbency Levels

Saalt provides a range of absorbency options to meet different needs because every woman’s flow is different. Here’s a quick guide to their absorbency levels:

  • Light Absorbency: Ideal for everyday leaks, discharge, or as a backup for your cup or disc. It holds 1-2 light tampons worth of liquid and is perfect for replacing panty-liners.

  • Regular Absorbency: This level can hold 3 tampons or two regular pads worth of wetness. It’s great for light flow days or as backup to an internal period product. The Cotton Bikini offers this level of protection. While you can wear this as a backup, you can also wear it by itself as with any of the period underwear styles. I personally only use them on their own. I don’t need to use a backup.

  • Heavy Absorbency: Designed for extra protection on heavy days or overnight, it can hold 4 tampons or 3 regular pads worth of liquid. It’s also suitable for light to moderate bladder leaks.

  • Super Absorbency: The newest addition, Super Absorbency, can hold 6+ pads or 8+ tampons worth of liquid. It’s ideal for very heavy leaks, overnight use, or postpartum care.

Can You Wear Period Underwear By Themselves?

Yes, Saalt period underwear is designed to be worn on its own! Of course, you know your flow best, which is why Saalt offers different absorbency levels. Depending on the day of your period and how heavy your flow is, you might choose a different absorbency level. I use them completely by themselves, and they work perfectly.

How Do They Feel? Do They Feel Wet?

I personally have a regular flow, and the Regular style is all I need for most days of my period. I never feel wet, even after wearing them all day. For my flow, I find that wearing just 1 or sometimes 2 pairs per day is sufficient. On heavy days, which typically only happens once during my cycle, I switch to the Heavy or Super Absorbency style. With these, I only need one pair for the day, and I feel completely secure.

HOW MANY PAIRS SHOULD YOU GET?

The number of pairs you need depends on your personal preference and cycle length. Of course, this will also be a choice based on how much you want to spend. If you are unsure how you will like them, I recommend starting with 1 or 2 pairs to see how you like them. Since my cycle typically lasts around 5 days, I want to have 5-6 pairs. I currently have 4 pairs and plan to purchase a couple more to have one for each day, plus an extra in case I ever need to wear more than 1 pair on one of the days of my cycle. This way, I can avoid washing and drying during my period. However, even 3-4 pairs should work well to start off, as you can wash and re-wear them as needed.

HOW TO WASH SAALT PERIOD UNDERWEAR

Keeping your period underwear in good condition is easy. Here’s a simple routine:

  1. Rinse: Rinse the underwear in cold water to remove any blood. I typically rinse the underwear out in the sink.

  2. Wash: Toss them in the washer with a gentle detergent. Saalt offers a specific period underwear detergent which I have yet to try, but I personally use Clean People’s detergent for all of my laundry. Their detergent is free from harsh ingredients and is very gentle. You can check out my review of it here. 3. Mesh Bag: Use a mesh bag (like the one from Saalt or any you have) to protect the fabric.

  4. Dry: Air-dry your underwear to maintain their shape and effectiveness.

Final Thoughts

Saalt period underwear has truly elevated my period care routine. While I thought Thinx period underwear was comfortable, I think Saalt period underwear is on a whole other level when it comes to comfort! I’m extremely impressed with its amazing comfort and absorbency. They’re surprisingly thin but can handle a substantial amount of blood, making them a fantastic investment. Plus, you can save money and makes this investment even more worthwhile when you use my link ➡️ https://www.saalt.com/DANI20 and code DANI20 to get 20% off your purchase!

While period underwear is an upfront investment, it saves you so much money in the long run! For example, I had my previous period underwear for over 5 years and it was still going strong! Period underwear, if well taken care of, will last years! Think of the amount of money you will save by not having to purchase disposable period products!

Period underwear makes that time of the month less stressful, more comfortable, is a sustainable option and saves you money! For me, that makes it so worth it! Saalt is a game-changer, and I hope you love them as much as I do! 🌟
